Kirtan!

First Saturday of every month in our Amherst studio, Next Kirtan is May 3rd.

Third Saturday of every month in our Easthampton studio, starting April 19th.  (No Kirtan June 21st; we'll have YogaPalooza again.)

All kirtans start at 7:30pm.  Everyone is welcome. 

$10 suggested donation (or whatever feels good)

Ever since he led the chanting our YogaPalooza last summer, folks have been asking us when JoJo will come back and do Kirtan.  We are pleased to be able to host this devoted and passionate musician and yogi. 

JoJo writes:

"Kirtan is a celebratory high energy group practice of call and response yogic chanting (usually in the Sanskrit Language). The chants are simple and repetitive with the words provided and the learning curve is quick. JoJo Silverman has studied music and chanting for over 10 years. Using sound in the exploration of consciousness to connect our hearts and minds is his gift.

JoJo founded the Devotional Music Foundation in 1999 to promote the sacredness of all music as a force for healing our planet. He has led, and continues to lead, Kirtans (yogic chanting) all over the globe including NYC, Boston, Asheville NC, Jerusalem Israel, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. Introducing a New and Unique Type of Class

On Tuesdays at 6:45pm and Thursdays at 7:15pm (formerly beginners yoga) we are now offering "All Levels Yoga and Meditation."  This class focuses on calming the nervous system, training the mind in concentration techniques, and dramatically reducing stress.

With regular participation, students will learn how to lift their mood, tap into their unconscious power, easily shed negative habits, and develop the high level of concentration described in the yoga sutras.  

Approximately half of our time will be spent doing moderately challenging postures. The sequence is specially ordered and timed to produce maximum stress release. The posture portion will be adaptable to all levels of ability.

The remaining time will include instruction on yoga pranayama (breathwork for cleansing and energy increase) and various meditation techniques.  These will also be suitable for beginners.

Over the years, yoga has become more diverse and more fitness-focused.  This class draws on my early experiences of yoga, when yoga was more commonly considered a training path for spiritual seekers and those interested in tapping into the hidden powers of the mind, as well as creating a healthier body.  

I am pleased and proud to be able to offer this class to our students.  I am excited for folks to experience this unique class.

Rainforest Yoga Immersion in Costa Rica

Work Studies Needed

We are looking for commited yoga students to assist teachers during busy class times.

Duties are: light cleaning, greeting students, and setting up the yoga room before, in between and after classes.  In exchange for each time slot you will take class for free. 

Two month commitment required to start. 

We also need folks to hang flyers in exchange for classes.  No long-term commitment required.

Class Card Extension Policies

Mama Nirvana’s Class Card Extension Policies

If you are unable to complete your class card due to traveling overnight outside the region the extension is free for exact number of days of travel.

If you are unable to your complete class card due to illness or injury the extension is free for the exact number of days affected.

If you are unable to complete your class card due to any other reason there is a $2 fee per unused class to extend the expiration date for one month. All unused classes must be extended in one payment.   Extension must be paid for before the card expires.

Class cards are non-transferable.

You must notify us promptly of any illness or travel in order to get a free extension.  You can do so by phone, email or in person at the studio. 

We cannot re-instate a card that has passed its expiration date.

Our class cards are among the most economical of any local studio and our policies are among the most lenient.  We hope you will take advantage of our offerings and purchase a class card.

Yoga Posture Clinic-Hip Openers, Spine Twists, Arm Balances and Inversions

Small group size and two highly experienced teachers assure that each student gets lots of personalized instruction in this uniqe workshop. Husband and wife co–teach the postures students can't seem to get enough of in our classes. The afternoon will follow our "posture clinic" format in which students suggest postures to be covered, give us feedback and get one–on–one advice.

Beginner Through Advanced Level.

Mondays 7:05-8:15pm in Amherst.

Fridays 9-10:15am in Amherst. (with Claudia)
Thursdays 6-7pm in Easthampton.
Saturdays 9-10am in Easthampton.

Born from Ruth Anne's experience of teaching yoga for 16+years and classic pilates mat classes for several years, this class is a seamless blend of the two.  The level is gentle to moderate, adaptable to suit your level.  It is appropriate for beginners and those with injuries.  Focus is on form and technique—not on "working out."

If you would like to:

  • Elongate your spine and flatten your belly;
  • Dramatically improve your yoga practice;
  • Stabilize your back and pelvis to erase pain;
  • Fully integrate your breath;
  • Contact your chakras—your psychic body energy centers;

Inner Practices of Yoga: Part 2, Meditation

Meditation is the vehicle for self–realization. Through the practice of meditation you tap into great depths of wisdom, joy and bliss. In this workshop, you'll get enough instruction to get you started meditating on your own. Specific attention is given to the body and its posture for meditation; the role of the breath; when, where, how much and how often to meditate, and specific basic techniques. Suitable for beginners and meditators with some experience. A 37–page workbook will be available for $8. There is NO FEE for this workshop, voluntary suggested donation $20.

Inner Practices of Yoga: Part 1, deep relaxation.

"Deep relaxation is nourishing to body and soul. EVERYONE needs to be able to self–induce deep states of peace and ease, simply in order to be able to process all the stimulation that bombards us every waking moment. If you don't currently have a "deep relaxation" practice you are missing out on one of the greatest pleasures life has to offer. I will teach you how." —Ruth Anne. This workshop is designed to be taken with "Inner Practices of Yoga, Part 2.," but can be taken alone. There is NO FEE for this workshop, Voluntary suggested donation is $20.

Core Flow Spiritual Yoga Experience

This workshop places yoga postures (asanas) within the context of a 3–hour spiritual immersion. Experience the powerful synergy of all classical yoga elements. Approximately one hour will be devoted to postures, with the remaining 2 hours set aside extended instruction and practice of breathwork, deep relaxation and seated meditation. Core Flow is a new way for yoga students to rapidly tap into the gross physical and subtle energetic streams of life energy. Yogic skills are increased without strain. Particular focus is on awakening the subtle pranic energy of the spine and elevating consciousness. Meditation, yoga breathing, and relaxation are intertwined with postures. The sequences build into multiple variations that provide beginner through advanced options. CoreFlow was developed by Ruth Anne as a culmination of over two decades of personal direct experience of prana (energy) flow in yoga.
